Where Is This Incheon My Friend?

For the past few days, I have been hearing a new name - Incheon- occassionally while watching the Indian TV News channels . To tell you the truth honestly, I haven't heard this name earlier. I could also see this name appear in the other media, both print and online as well. But the news reporters hardly gave any clue as to where this place is.

Listening the news in bits and pieces what I could make out was that this Incheon is some city somewhere in some Asian country where the Asian games of 2014 is being held. Because, the news was about the Asian games and not about Incheon.

I self pitied silently on the present level of my general knowledge. Shameful! I have not yet found out where this Incheon is! I do not even know which Asian games is this or any thing more about it.

True, I am not a sports enthusiast and there is no reason why I should be worried about my lack of general knowledge about this sports event which is the Olympics of the Asians. And enhancing my GK is not going to reward me in any way now in the fag end of my career!

But yet, I am a curious man. When curiosity comes in I just could not sit without satisfying it. Many times I thought of taking the help of Google and Wikipedia which I now know for sure would give me the instant solution to my problem. Unfortunately, as what was told as happened in the case of Karna in Mahabharat, I was failing to recollect the name Incheon the moment I sat before the PC for browsing the internet. Without the key word, how could I possibly proceed to find out? 

Of course, I could have typed silly questions or illogical phrases with full spelling mistakes in the Google search bar just as millions in the world are doing today to find the answers they seek. The young men and women who work as programmers and analysts with Google have already found solutions as far as digging out information from the world wide web is concerned.

And the millions of amateur enthusiasts from around the world are using the Wikipedia platform to consolidate all kinds of information that any one might require. 

So, things are not so difficult in these days for those having the computers with internet connectivity.

But then the question that follows is this. Why do we have these news TV channels and the print news media? I am especially annoyed with the TV news channels of India because they keep making a mess on the screen visuals and the audio by cramming up too many things at the same time. Besides, every couple of minutes they give a break for several minutes to play their myriads of boring ad clips. When they start again, they keep repeating the same thing for another few minutes only to be stopped again to repeat the same routine! And the whole lot of them keep flashing 'breaking news' in such bold letters that eat away half of the screen area!

Perhaps they are trying to satisfy the needs of all kinds of customers. But the reality is that you just cannot make out any thing from what they keep beaming on a 24x7 basis! Perhaps, I am an old timer who is not fit to get to the wave lengths of the new generation viewers who are told as good in extracting all information from this kind of complex news telecasts!

But for me, things are totally different. I have stopped viewing this TV news channels of my country, especially those who boast as the national level players who convey the news in Hinglish (a mixture of Hindi mixed up with Indian English). But yet they come to be noticed now and then when I browse the hundreds of channels for some thing worth viewing, only to waste my available time. In that process, perhaps I do give an enhancement of viewership to all the channels!

Had there been a choice, I would have selected a news channel which gave the real news honestly without those biscuit and napkin ads. Yes, I know that these ads are their bread and wine and devoid of those they would not live for long. But yet, I would have preferred paying for viewing them rather than getting those ridiculous ad filled news! If some of the movie channels could be paid and ad free, why can't they?

And when that is the case, these news room boys and girls could have told us where this Incheon is! Perhaps they could have enlightened our general knowledge a bit more by telling us more about that city and the country too while giving us the news about the games and the medal tallies!

Initially I was thinking that I would be the only fool who did not know about Incheon. But to my great relief I found that a good majority are like me. Ignorant. They too did not get much from viewing the news channels and reading the print media.

Now you know that Incheon is in South Korea and its full name is Incheon Metropolitan Area and it is the host city of the 17th Asiad also now called the Incheon Asian Games. It is near Seol the Capital city of S.Korea and one of the fast growing modern city. The newly constructed Incheon Bridge and its International Airport are engineering master pieces!

But still it would have been much better if these news media fellows gave these back ground info too with their rhetoric of breaking news!

To tell you the truth, I have now started liking the Door Darshan News (DD News)- the Indian TV legacy owned by the government. It has improved much after the new government took over. Besides, it has much lower time wasting with boring ads!

News and Media : Perpetuating Pessimism in the Guise of Creating Corrective Awareness !

Of late I am losing my interest in watching the News TV channels and reading the Print Media. I do not know the situation in other countries. But in this great nation of so-called pacifists, veggies and 'Ahimsawaadis' (proponents of non-violence) violence, cruelty and hatred are getting undue importance in the news media in recent years. 

It is a time of making material business benefits from even those activities that used to be considered semi-divine in some years ago. Yes, I am talking about journalism, teaching, preaching, healing and the like. 

Creating awareness about the evils of the society for possible eradication of such things in future may be a good idea. To that extent, propagating news about evil happenings might be tolerable.

But any thing in excess is bad and poisonous. Anything without applying the wise balance of mind is destructive.

'Breaking News' in red has become a continuous feature in the Indian TV channels that I am not able to differentiate the 'break' or the 'news'. And in reality, these neo news editors of these countless channels are breaking the heads of the viewers with these gimmicks which has lost its ingenuity. 

Most of the media men and women associated with the so-called national news channels seem to  loiter around the metros only with their cameras and microphones to look for road accidents and such human mishaps and disasters to be beamed to the millions of Indian households with such absurd impunity. 

They have now made the unfortunate sorrows of humans beings as a means of making money. They break the pathetic human agonies in to millisecond clips and beam it 24x7 with those ad-clips that run in to hours!

What kind of a media journalism is this ?

They have to be practical and cost effective, they might say. They give what the public want to see and listen. They go by the viewership statistics. News about bad things and evil incidences are what thrills the Indian viewers, they argue ! 

That reminds me of another story. Decades ago, a south Indian community in a central Indian city made repeated appeals to the railway ministry for linking their city with their south Indian home state with the convenience of a direct express train service. But the railway babus repeatedly rejected their genuine plea on the ground that their records showed no passenger demand on this route.How could that happen when there was no direct train service ? From where these babus could have got the relevant data of passenger load ?

So, when the TV fellows keep showing the those head breaking news of nonsense always, there is no escape for the viewers. The viewership would be cent percent on news highlighting the evil character of the Indian society. 

If feature films depicting evil stories are going to influence the minds of the majority people, especially the children,  as told by some of the wise social activists and psychologists, then the evil news propagation day and night would do more harm than that. 

Why do these media men and women flock around some peculiar characters associated with politics, cinema and sports and try to make them celebrities ? Are they getting some indirect benefits for glamorizing such men and women? Media plays to make some people celebrities and celebrities add to media popularity. It is a double benefit game. Only the common people are be-fooled in this game!

Media is called the fourth estate (read estate of power!) in a democracy. Yes, they are the ones who make and break deals. They are the ones who think that they are above all. They can break and make governments. Is it not something great ? 

But in the process they seem to forget their duties and responsibilities to the society. Just as the people who form the courts, the people who are the eyes and ears of the society also have to work with some self imposed ethics and codes of conduct. If not they are bound to perish some day together with the society they belong.

Why are they not projecting the good things from their society ? Why don't they project those good things with prominence ? Human achievements are much more desirable to be projected than human disappointments and troubles. The former propagates positive energy and helps in positive progress. The latter is negative energy that destroys!

Let us hope that our media men and women come out of their biasing influences and learn to do their duties and responsibilities the way it should be ! 

Let me conclude this by quoting an admonition to mankind from the superhuman authors of my favorite book of life guidance:

"As you view the world, remember that the black patches of evil which you see are shown against a white background of ultimate good. You do not view merely white patches of good which show up miserably against a black background of evil.

When there is so much good truth to publish and proclaim, why should men dwell so much upon the evil in the world just because it appears to be a fact? The beauties of the spiritual values of truth are more pleasurable and uplifting than  the phenomenon of evil." 

"Juvenile Justice Act Has Failed Miserably.....We Cannot Hold the Child Responsible For a Crime...!

The title above is part of a quote from a Judicial Commission Report submitted to the Prime Minister of India as quoted by a leading English Newspaper Online.

I read the news as well as the full report of the Commission. [You can also do the same here !]

The Commission Report is over 600 pages. Neither the PM nor his top officials would  have the time and patience to read the entire report. It would indeed a big problem for those down below to make a gist of the things from this huge report for the perusal of the higher ups.

In that process what is going to happen cannot be predicted by even those with divine qualities !

In short, the Commission's observation means that anyone committing a heinous crime is not responsible for that if he or she was not provided with the life as guaranteed by the Constitution during his or her childhood. I may be wrong, but that is what I understood !

There are many other issues that are covered in the report. Perhaps, individually no one in this country would ever be in a position to resolve any of those.

That simply means that it is futile for any one to expect any thing good coming out as a consequence of that report. The Commission Report itself points out to such an eventuality as it cites the fate of many previous Commission recommendations.

What should we do now, dear citizens of India ?

Massive protests and rallies are not going to work !

Commission reports are not going to make any dent !

Pray to God for sending another 'Avatar'. It is long time that the last one has left ! It's already due !

I was just thinking.

If all the destitute children of this country are recruited by the anti-socials just at the appropriate time to commit crimes of the highest order, they need not worry of getting any punishment. Atleast that is guaranteed by the government by enacting cent percent humane juvenile laws.

While guaranteeing the rights of the hapless, if some problems happen to the affluent class, that is just a pardonable thing. Nothing very serious !

Last week a high tech personality from north India dared to commit a high-tech house break and auto theft in a South Indian capital. He was made a celebrity by the committed media of India. And the efficient police from two states took him in their custody at lightning speed.

But what intrigued me was not this. It was the lightning speed with which a high profile criminal lawyer took up his defense even before the police could comfortably reach station with the said accused.

The lawyer admitted in a TV channel interview that he was retained by some people to defend the man and get him released on bail.

What does it convey ? All criminals who are capable of doing dare devil acts  of crime have invisible god-fathers behind them.

No courts or legal system can normally dare to touch such protectees ! At least that is how it appears !

The legal system is essentially drafted to punish law abiding citizens who err or take chances with the law. It is basically made to scare the common man and not to prevent them from the hardened criminals !

Now who makes or drafts the law ? What is the role of the so-called law makers whom the people have elected in making the laws ?

Perhaps nothing much ! Except  saying ayes or noes when they are whipped to do so by their respective parties for those drafts made and presented by someone !

Then there are many more such who's and how's.

Under such a situation how can any one hold anyone responsible ?

If no one is responsible is it not a big achievement that we are still surviving ?

Those aberrations here and there should be ignored !

It is simple Indian wisdom not to see, not hear and not to talk such things !

God's Particle Discovery : What Caused Our Scientists To Be So Jubilant ?

Unlike any other normal day, all the leading newspapers and the electronic media in India today carried  more or less the same headlines . They all were beaming with the success story of the scientists associated with the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) in finding evidence to the existence of particles that perhaps made electrons, protons and the neutrons which have been so far considered as fundamental particles that constituted the atoms of all elements.

Many nations including India have contributed to build the $10 billion Large Hadron Collider of CERN where over 2000 scientists worked hard to prove experimentally the existence of a theoretical postulate about the most fundamental particle of matter. The scientists considered this predicted particle as the building block of all matter. They named it as Higgs boson, a name derived from the names of two eminent theoretical physicists, from UK and India. But somehow, this postulated ultra minute particle which apparently originated from nowhere has been popularly known as God's Particle. When some thoughtful men proposed the atoms as the smallest building blocks of matter they had reasons for that. Later, when other curious observers noticed complex phenomena such as electricity, magnetism and radiation, there was need for them to constantly revise their models of the atom. So the modern electronic theory of configuration of atoms of elements got fairly established.

For those who are not scientifically initiated, these knowledge simply posed nonsensical jargons. But they too agreed to the immense potentials of modern science that changed there way of living altogether by means of TV, computers, internet, mobile phones and the like. The practical side of science made the laymen to believe in scientists even when they had little knowledge about the works that they actually carried out.

Science and scientists got high acceptability and there was a time when many of the just initiated scientists believing in the supremacy of humans in everything with the advancement of science.

At the same time, scientists of the highest knowledge and wisdom, have been realizing an exhaustion of their rationalized thoughts. They were realizing the existence of an immense and all pervading power working invisibly behind all recognizable forms of energy and matter.

Yes, slowly they were zeroing into a reality that the philosophers and spiritualists have recognized long back. The existence of an all wise God behind everything.

Perhaps that caused the British Scientist Peter Higgs to propose his theory some 48 years ago. He postulated that some invisible force or energy field that pervades the whole space of the universe is responsible for giving mass to the building blocks of all elements of matter.

Initially most other scientists were reluctant to accept his theory. But as years passed, more and more scientists were drawn to think over it and slowly their scientific logics and experiments were compelling them to accept the possibility of God behind our existence.

The scientific community seemed divided over God. There were eminent scientists like Einstein who accepted God's providence behind everything in our universe. But there have been a considerable lot among them who ridiculed the idea.

So some one among them sarcastically called Higgs' postulated particle as ' God's Particle', perhaps thinking that it is never going to be proved.

Over the years the scientific community became so obsessed with it. Experimental evidence of God's particle was going to change their concepts for ever !

The time and costs for this were not going to deter them from this effort.

So began the massive international scientific effort in human history and the installation of the biggest scientific apparatus ever made by man- the Hadron Collider.

I do not know how much India contributed to this international effort of finding the God's particle.

Anyway, for Indians there is more to feel pride in this whole scientific exercise of all times. Because, the scientific name of God's particle, boson comes from the name of the Bengali physicist, Satyendra Nath Bose who worked with Einstein in USA way back in the 1920's.

Satyendra Nath's work in the USA nearly a century ago was not of much concern to common Indians and perhaps no one ever would have known him without this science experiment. Unfortunately, he did not live to see his name catapulting high in these years.

But Peter Higgs declared himself fortunate to see his predictions come vindicated experimentally by his successors. He is fortunate to see the world taking note of his proposition and approaching towards a final conclusion to his theoritical reasoning.

It is difficult for a common man to understand the complexities involved in this experiment to find the existence of these fundamental particles. The large particle accelerator machine that the scientists of CERN built for this purpose is reported as housed in an underground tunnel having a circular length of about 27 miles.

Now whether the physicists have actually found the God's particle or some thing near to it will only be known later.

But at least now they can say for sure that electrons are not the smallest particle.

They are also leading to the evidence to the existence of the all pervading invisible energy source behind all those visible matter and energy of the universe.

That is logically making the conclusion what the spiritualists and the philosophers have been asserting for centuries. God is the source of everything, though His presence is invisible in the ordinary sense.

So there is a compelling evidence to believe in God now for both the spiritualistic religionists and the materialistic scientists. 

Is it time then, for them to work in unison ? I think so.

And that is what the invisible authors of my favorite book revealed to us while modern science was in its budding stage. Yes, the authors of the Urantia Book told us that they are all real personalities who exist in a realm of existence that is not material, but pre-material. They preferred to use the word-spiritual( that word was vaguely understood by us)- to differentiate that realm of existence from our material existence (visible matter and energy are that we understood and believed as the only reality!)

I have all reasons to believe that most of our modern day scientists are aware of the revelatory knowledge that is contained in the Urantia Book.

But yet, they shy away from admitting that truth.

Because, if they say that God has taught them physics and chemistry, the not-so-learned majority of humans are going to laugh at them.

That is how they have brought up their science so far. They isolated spiritual knowledge from scientific knowledge and preferred to treat them separately in airtight compartments.

But now the time has come to break this compartmentalisation.

Deep in their minds a good majority of world's scientists are  feeling jubilant in proving the existence of God's particle. This has given them the opportunity to resolve a conflict that was disturbing them for years !

Also because this is the first milestone for the earth scientists to officially admit to the existence of a reality that they so far kept trumpeting as 'unscientific' illusions of the religionists.

It is also the first milestone of the organized religions to accept the reality of scientific evidences to fortify their position as some thing built on a universal reality.

Incidentally, the Urantia Book authors declared to the world in 1955 that the electron is not the smallest particle of matter. They informed us that the electron is in reality made up of 100 minute building sub-electronic particles which they called the 'ultimaton'.

For the convenience of my readers, let me quote some relevant quotes from this book in this context:

The foundation of the universe is material in the sense that energy is the basis of all existence, and pure energy is controlled by the Universal Father (God). Force, energy, is the one thing which stands as an everlasting monument demonstrating and proving the existence and presence of the Universal Absolute. This vast stream of energy proceeding from the Paradise Presences has never lapsed, never failed; there has never been a break in the infinite upholding.

There is innate in matter and present in universal space a form of energy not known on Urantia (Earth). When this discovery is finally made, then will physicists feel that they have solved, almost at least, the mystery of matter. And so will they have approached one step nearer the Creator; so will they have mastered one more phase of the divine technique; but in no sense will they have found God, neither will they have established the existence of matter or the operation of natural laws apart from the cosmic technique of Paradise and the motivating purpose of the Universal Father.

Energy proceeds from Paradise, fashioned after the divine order. Energy—pure energy—partakes of the nature of the divine organization; it is fashioned after the similitude of the three Gods embraced in one, as they function at the headquarters of the universe of universes. And all force is circuited in Paradise, comes from the Paradise Presences and returns thereto, and is in essence a manifestation of the uncaused Cause—the Universal Father; and without the Father would not anything exist that does exist.

It is indeed difficult to find suitable words in the English language whereby to designate and wherewith to describe the various levels of force and energy—physical, mindal, or spiritual. These narratives cannot altogether follow your accepted definitions of force, energy, and power. There is such paucity of language that we must use these terms in multiple meanings. In this paper, for example, the word energy is used to denote all phases and forms of phenomenal motion, action, and potential, while force is applied to the pregravity, and power to the postgravity, stages of energy.

Matter in all universes, excepting in the central universe, is identical. Matter in its physical properties depends on the revolutionary rates of its component members, the number and size of the revolving members, their distance from the nuclear body or the space content of matter, as well as on the presence of certain forces as yet undiscovered on Urantia (Earth).

In the varied suns, planets, and space bodies there are ten grand divisions of matter:

1. Ultimatonic matter—the prime physical units of material existence, the energy particles which go to make up electrons.2. Subelectronic matter—the explosive and repellent stage of the solar supergases.3. Electronic matter—the electrical stage of material differentiation—electrons, protons, and various other units entering into the varied constitution of the electronic groups.4. Subatomic matter—matter existing extensively in the interior of the hot suns.5. Shattered atoms—found in the cooling suns and throughout space.6. Ionized matter—individual atoms stripped of their outer (chemically active) electrons by electrical, thermal, or X-ray activities and by solvents.7. Atomic matter—the chemical stage of elemental organization, the component units of molecular or visible matter.8. The molecular stage of matter—matter as it exists on Urantia in a state of relatively stable materialization under ordinary conditions.9. Radioactive matter—the disorganizing tendency and activity of the heavier elements under conditions of moderate heat and diminished gravity pressure.10. Collapsed matter—the relatively stationary matter found in the interior of the cold or dead suns. This form of matter is not really stationary; there is still some ultimatonic even electronic activity, but these units are in very close proximity, and their rates of revolution are greatly diminished.

Light, heat, electricity, magnetism, chemism, energy, and matter are—in origin, nature, and destiny—one and the same thing, together with other material realities as yet undiscovered on Urantia (Earth).

Throughout all space, cold and other influences are at work creatively organizing ultimatons into electrons. Heat is the measurement of electronic activity, while cold merely signifies absence of heat—comparative energy rest—the status of the universal force-charge of space provided neither emergent energy nor organized matter were present and responding to gravity.

Temperature—heat and cold—is secondary only to gravity in the realms of energy and matter evolution. Ultimatons are humbly obedient to temperature extremes. Low temperatures favor certain forms of electronic construction and atomic assembly, while high temperatures facilitate all sorts of atomic breakup and material disintegration.

When subjected to the heat and pressure of certain internal solar states, all but the most primitive associations of matter may be broken up. Heat can thus largely overcome gravity stability. But no known solar heat or pressure can convert ultimatons back into puissant energy.

Throughout all of this never-ending metamorphosis of energy and matter we must reckon with the influence of gravity pressure and with the antigravity behavior of the ultimatonic energies under certain conditions of temperature, velocity, and revolution. Temperature, energy currents, distance, and the presence of the living force organizers and the power directors also have a bearing on all transmutation phenomena of energy and matter.

The increase of mass in matter is equal to the increase of energy divided by the square of the velocity of light. In a dynamic sense the work which resting matter can perform is equal to the energy expended in bringing its parts together from Paradise minus the resistance of the forces overcome in transit and the attraction exerted by the parts of matter on one another.

The relative integrity of matter is assured by the fact that energy can be absorbed or released only in those exact amounts which Urantia (Earth) scientists have designated as quanta. This wise provision in the material realms serves to maintain the universes as going concerns.

The quantity of energy taken in or given out when electronic or other positions are shifted is always a “quantum” or some multiple thereof, but the vibratory or wavelike behavior of such units of energy is wholly determined by the dimensions of the material structures concerned. Such wavelike energy ripples are 860 times the diameters of the ultimatons, electrons, atoms, or other units thus performing. The never-ending confusion attending the observation of the wave mechanics of quantum behavior is due to the superimposition of energy waves: Two crests can combine to make a double-height crest, while a crest and a trough may combine, thus producing mutual cancellation.

Primordial-force behavior does give rise to phenomena which are in many ways analogous to your postulated ether. Space is not empty; the spheres of all space whirl and plunge on through a vast ocean of outspread force-energy; neither is the space content of an atom empty. Nevertheless there is no ether, and the very absence of this hypothetical ether enables the inhabited planet to escape falling into the sun and the encircling electron to resist falling into the nucleus.

Local or linear gravity becomes fully operative with the appearance of the atomic organization of matter. Preatomic matter becomes slightly gravity responsive when activated by X ray and other similar energies, but no measurable linear-gravity pull is exerted on free, unattached, and uncharged electronic-energy particles or on unassociated ultimatons.

Ultimatons function by mutual attraction, responding only to the circular Paradise-gravity pull. Without linear-gravity response they are thus held in the universal space drift. Ultimatons are capable of accelerating revolutionary velocity to the point of partial antigravity behavior, but they cannot, independent of force organizers or power directors, attain the critical escape velocity of deindividuation, return to the puissant-energy stage. In nature, ultimatons escape the status of physical existence only when participating in the terminal disruption of a cooled-off and dying sun.

The ultimatons, unknown on Urantia (Earth), slow down through many phases of physical activity before they attain the revolutionary-energy prerequisites to electronic organization. Ultimatons have three varieties of motion: mutual resistance to cosmic force, individual revolutions of antigravity potential, and the intraelectronic positions of the one hundred mutually interassociated ultimatons.

Mutual attraction holds one hundred ultimatons together in the constitution of the electron; and there are never more nor less than one hundred ultimatons in a typical electron. The loss of one or more ultimatons destroys typical electronic identity, thus bringing into existence one of the ten modified forms of the electron.

If the mass of matter should be magnified until that of an electron equaled one tenth of an ounce, then were size to be proportionately magnified, the volume of such an electron would become as large as that of the earth. If the volume of a proton—eighteen hundred times as heavy as an electron—should be magnified to the size of the head of a pin, then, in comparison, a pin’s head would attain a diameter equal to that of the earth’s orbit around the sun.

Well, my dear friend, it is much more detailed in this book. This book was printed first in 1955 and the papers were actually handed over to humans a few decades earlier. That was the time when a few of our scientists were laboring to discover more about the atoms and the new scientific discoveries on electricity and radiation. At that time what they knew remained privy to only the select few scientists of the top institutions of the world. The laymen and the general media had no idea on all these.

If you have read so far, perhaps you can now judge that our scientists have not yet discovered the real God's particle, the ultimaton. But ofcourse, they are leading to it.

In my opinion the scientific community would definitely benefit, if they start reading the Urantia Book. Many have done that, though they do not admit it for reasons I have mentioned.

I am also surprised why our media fellows have not heard of the Urantia Book yet !

Science, Research and Conclusions: It Can Happen Like this Too !

The biology professor was instigating the scientific curiosity in his research student.

He wanted the young researcher to give an in depth study on the ants.

The focus now could be the ability of the ants in recognizing sounds.

The PhD aspirant thought it a good idea. She was hopeful of getting her doctorate in biology.

That would make her much qualified to teach the tiny tots in the public schools.

Or the future generations of researchers in the government funded universities.

Or to become an environmental expert who can decide what Pepsi should make and market.

The initial months went in preparations.

The literature surveys, collection and collation of existing scientific information needed much time.

Though google helped in collecting all the material required to fill her voluminous thesis, she has to collect and sort.

That is a big work indeed.

Google helped in digging out even century old research papers like this.

The researcher was now much satisfied with her project. Not much has been done in this research yet.

There is ample scope for her.

Another few months went in planning her experiments.

Some more in procuring some instruments and gadgets for her experiment through her department.

Budget is required for the procurements. It is not that easy.

The purchase department of the university has to follow the rules. And it is bound to take months.

Finally she and her guide were satisfied. They got all the gadgets for their experiments.

That included a microphone, sound amplifier, drawing board, measuring tapes, nail cutter and the like.

The lab attendant brought the live ants for the experiments.

One each in ten small glass ampules.

Then came the due day for conducting the experiment.

One ant was placed at the centre circle on the drawing board.

A decibel adjusted instruction " run " was shouted to the live specimen.

The ant moved out of the centre circle to escape.

The researcher allowed it ten seconds.

Then the distance moved by the ant got duly measured and noted as 10 cm.

The poor ant was caught again.

Its two legs were carefully cut with the nail cutter.

Then the experiment repeated. This time the ant moved only 5 cm.

Then another two of its legs got plucked.

Again it was given the audio command. This time the it ran 2 cm.

Then its last pair of legs got removed.

This time the ant moved little. It registered zero.

The experiment got repeated on the other specimens.

All records of experiments got duly noted.

The researchers were fully satisfied. There is a trend.

Enough data for a good regression analysis.

Finally the voluminous thesis work got printed and bound.

It was ready now for presentation and review.

Do you want to know what the researchers concluded ?

It read something like this :

" The hearing power of an ant is proportional to the number of legs it has. "

This is a small adaptation of a story what I heard from a speaker who made a lively speech to us teenagers in a youth camp some decades ago. He was trying to make us understand the follies of life. What we see, hear and apparently understand may not be true. It depends much on our level of understanding.

We live in an era of information explosion. You get all kinds of information on almost everything.

There are researchers like the ones of the story above who come out with their logic and analyses which appear as true for most people.

There are scientists who convince you with their experimental findings and conclusions.

There are medical researchers who come out with various kinds of 'proven' remedies.

They also have 'proven' treatments for various kinds of diseases.

There are health and hygiene researchers who can theorise on the ill effects of the foods you eat .

There is also the media who drumbeats on all kinds of researches and findings.

There is no harm in knowing about all these.

But there could be some, if you lose your ability to discern the right from the wrong !

Had I been the PM of India !

I would never be the PM (Prime Minister or Chief Executive ) of this country and that would be true for 99.9999% of the Indian citizens.

But one or two of the 1.2 billion would become its PM now and then.

So this is purely an imagination.

But my country India is a democracy and every citizen has a right to dream or to have an aspiration on how its PM ought to be.

While watching the present and past PMs at times such thoughts forcefully come into the minds of some citizens of this country.

I am no exception. Such thoughts do come to my mind as well.

I would like to share some of my present thoughts on how I would behave, had I been the PM of this country.

Had I been the PM of India, then :

- The first thing I would decide is that I would not become the PM for another term, because I hold the values of democracy high and would not use the power and position attained to cling on to it for ever. This way I make my self free to decide upon issues fearlessly and without bias.

- I would do all I can to see that I  push and pass such laws that make it impossible for immature, characterless and incompetent persons get a chance to be the PM after me.

- I would push and promote economic policies that would promote unemployment levels in the country to come to naught and the average incomes at the lowest levels to reach sufficiently high for the people to lead a decent life as a dignified citizen. I would encourage and honour all business entities who help the nation in this aspect.

- I would push and promote such laws and rules that honour the rights and privileges of each and every citizen of the country, honestly. I would ensure that the ministers discharge their responsibilities earnestly and are accountable for their actions.

- I would ensure that governments are doing only those activities which are for non-profit and welfare of the nation. All profit making businesses shall be controlled by companies set up in accordance with the companies act. Government owned companies shall be run on a no-profit no-loss basis and such companies or organizations shall be only in those areas where it is not desirable and feasible for non-government  entities to operate.

- I would push and promote laws that ensure education services a business as well as a governmental responsibility, depending upon the demographic situation. The laws and rules shall be such that no eligible citizen is denied education for want of money. All educational institutions that are making surplus funds shall be required to share 90% of their surplus for promoting education for the underprivileged.

- I would push and promote a differential corporate taxation system that ensure lower taxation for those companies that spend their substantial profits towards business expansion, research and welfare measures.

- I would establish a law that makes it the government's responsibility to ensure free and essential education, medical treatment and funeral for all wanting citizens whose incomes are below the national average.

- I would reduce bureaucratic controls on business to the lowest and push a law that prevents the states to pass laws that are detrimental to business growth.

- I would facilitate the rules that would make the distribution of national income between the centre and the states in accordance with an acceptable economic formula.

- I would give utmost priority to enhance infrastructure and other facilities to all government offices and establishments including the courts.

- I would ensure that the defence spending of the country is limited to a percentage of the GDP not exceeding that of the first 5 most populous countries of the world. I would also ensure that imports on defence technology , production and procurements is a minimum and on a declining trend.

- I would push and establish such laws that make it mandatory for all private and public establishments to publish their key performance information on their websites accurately and consistently.

- I would ensure that the laws regarding land are revised to enable all round progress in a reasonable time frame. Together with this rural and urban land ceiling would be implemented universally on a pan India basis adopting logical standards. I would also promote modernization of countries land records with modern technology which would eliminate litigations and enable smooth transactions. I would also make such laws that empower the government to take control of all excess and unutilized land and promulgate a development oriented land use policy.

- I would take up law reformation on top priority to simplify the Indian jurisprudence benchmarking it with the best in the world.

- I would ensure that me and my ministers are available in our respective offices for at least 75 % of the time and will not undertake tours and globe trotting unless it is extremely essential.

- I would ensure that all the MPs are made board members of national statutory organisations for better peoples participation in governance and would push to pass laws to this effect.

- I would make it a point of hearing the peoples voices on a regular basis by reading the news papers and the media and never ever depend on my advisers to screen what I should hear and read.


There are much more.

I am sure many of you from this country would also have such thoughts on how your PM or government should function or how your PM should prioritize his / her actions.

Why I prefer Blogging with Blogger ?

When the word blog and blogging came to my notice a couple of years ago, frankly, I was not knowing its meaning. Slowly, I began to understand what it is and what it can do.

A blog as I understand now, is something in written form which is shared online in the world wide web or Internet, the technology of modern world that changed the way people lived and communicated. The voice communication technologies of modern telephony do not have the superior advantages of mass communication and information archiving facilities that the blogging technology has.

The adaptation of the Internet with this new blog creation and publishing platform has revolutionized the ways of reading and writing of people.

Monopoly of writing and publishing has crumbled and it has now come in the hands of every one, almost free of cost.

Now potential writers like me are no more subject to the whims and fancies of authoritarian editors of the so-called media, either print or online, who for so many years have been doing the subtle task of subverting the ways in which people thought or wrote.

They never allowed the thoughts of the common man to be known to others without their censoring. If a line of thought is not meeting their purpose, they would strike it down, killing the seed of the thought ever getting a chance to get germinated.

Newspapers and online magazines publish many things on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. But what they publish are solely those matters what they deemed as fit. Thus they, in a way acted as the sponsors of budding authors.

Even the common features like the 'letters to the editor' were subject to the whims of the editors. Thus those letters getting published to public gaze were the opinions of the readers what the editors agreed to be made known. I remember some instances where some of my comments of general interest getting deleted by the editors while they allowed obscene and objectionable things freely. I do not have any thing to comment on their right to discard those writings which are non-readable or of a language not normally acceptable to the society. They do have the right on that. But they also decided the content on the basis of its possible impact on the readership of their respective media.

In the final analysis, media is also a money making business. Money has to be generated to run this business. So those content that was not facilitating money making was not normally favoured.

The blogging facilities of dot com companies which thrive on the modern Internet technology are also part of some businesses. Some of them are bigger and more internationalized than the conventional media businesses.

But the good part of the blog media is that it allows somebody interested in writing to write and publish a matter almost instantaneously and fully without any draconian editor coming in between to prevent its publication.

The responsibility of the content of the blog vests fully with its author.

More over, what is published is visible to the public through the Internet pages and is archived for an infinite period visible to not only the present viewers, but also to the potential viewers of the future.

Though there are many blogging sites, Blogger in association with Blogspot, both now part of the big brother Google, is no doubt the best. That is my personal opinion.

It has some best facilities that no other blogging company has or offers.

First and foremost, it has the best hassle free technology. And keeps advancing or improving. So far I did not face any technical problem with publishing. It is really fast and friendly with your PC and the loaded software that it normally has.

Second it offers your blogs to be published in the most decent manner and you have all the desired levels of controls and tools for designing your blog page. You need not be a computer expert for this.

You can edit, delete your blogs or the comments from your readers at any time. You can also keep the drafts of your blogs, in fact many drafts at a time, on your dashboard indefinitely till you decide to publish them.

You don't incur any expenses in publishing your blogs, except the Internet charges that you pay. Additionally your blog page does not get bombarded by advertisements without your permission. The Google AdSense is ofcourse there for those blog authors who desire to make some money provided their readers cause generation of some income by showing interest in those advertisements placed on your page through it. But for you have the absolute freedom to decide whether your page should have advertisement or not.

Your pages are and its content are searchable by the search engines or to limited audience as per your choice.

You can enrich the pages with pictures or videos if you desire.

Most importantly, Blogger allows you to know some feed backs about your readers. The total number of page views with a detailed analysis of the readership on a monthly, weekly and daily basis is one of the best features a blog author would perhaps like the most. It gives a global perspective of your readership. Again with such a superb and hassle free technology!

Nevertheless, this feed back as of now is available only to me, the author. I tried to give a link for the benefit of my readers but it failed. Because to read the feedback link, signing in is required.

Anyway for your information, my blogs on blogger with the title Rajan C Mathew's Blogs became active from July 2011, though I opened the blogger account in May 2009. My blog writings in blogger got momentum in the last two or three months only. In the last three months around 1600 page views have been registered. Leaving the page views from my own country, the major viewers are from the USA (415), Germany (100), Russia (82), France (54), Moldova (32), Latvia (25), Canada (22), Portugal (20) and Denmark (16).

The majority of blog viewers, are silent viewers. They somehow lack the enthusiasm to write their comments or express their feelings. Personally, I would feel happy if my readers do this, even when the comments are critical in nature. Comments would also give an opportunity to all readers to know mutually to some extent.
